This morning is at leisure for you to begin your exploration of Bruges with its canals, cobbled streets and shops selling the famous Belgian chocolate on almost every corner. The historic centre of Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a joy to explore. The Hotel Olympia is located around 1 mile from the historic centre of Bruges (approx. 20 – 30 minute walk). This afternoon spend further free time in Bruges or why not join our optional excursion to Ypres and the Last Post Ceremony? Spend time at leisure exploring the town centre and see the market square, dominated by the huge Cloth Hall, with its magnificent belfry. This evening pause at the Menin Gate, where the Last Post Ceremony is performed daily. The Menin Gate is a memorial dedicated to the missing and bears the names of 54,896 officers and men who died between 1914 and 15 August 1917. Every evening since 11 November 1929, buglers have sounded the emotive Last Post at 8pm beneath the archway. We return to the hotel after the Last Post Ceremony.

Today we enjoy an included morning visit to Ghent. Affectionately known as the ‘Flower Capital of Belgium’, Ghent is a city of great elegance, boasting a wonderful legacy of medieval architecture and imposing monuments. The ‘Gravensteen’ or ‘Castle of the Counts’ was rebuilt by Philip of Alsace in the 12th century as a symbol of his power, and its battlements provide an interesting view of the city. Gent’s popular City Pavilion is a modern building, completed in 2012 by architects Robbrecht & Daem, and a contrast to the surrounding architecture, with its striking design and use of glass, wood and concrete in its construction. There will be free time for you to explore before we return to Bruges for an afternoon at leisure.
Return home.
You will stay for three nights at the 3-star, family-owned Hotel Olympia in Bruges, within walking distance of the local shops and the historic centre.

The whole trip was fabulous from start to finish. Due to a change of circumstances I had to travel to and from Stop 24 alone which I must admit I was nervous about the return journey due to several coach changes but there was no need for concern as I was never left alone at any point. Our drivers, Ashley and John were brilliant. Our hotel was very good. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed, a safe and a nice bathroom. The breakfast was good and there was a small bar area. The trips were also very good, we did the trip into Ypres and Ghent. Ghent is beautiful and you could easily stay there all day. There really isn’t much at Ypres other than the ceremony at the Menin Gate which I suspect that was what most people were there for and therefore I felt the trip was too long. I would definitely do this trip again.

The holiday was excellent, the drivers from a company called Dews were very professional, friendly and helpful. The hotel was basic but the staff were excellent and always helpful. We have booked another holiday for next year to Italy, if it is as good as this one we will not be disappointed. Again really well done to the drivers who made the holiday excellent.

Lovely hotel, good location approx 15min walk to centre. Bruce and Kane (Shearings drivers) great and very informative. Would have liked longer in Ghent. Only reason preventing five stars is the journey time and number of changes from home to port / port to home.
